Yeosijae launches Smart City Archetype 3D platform

- Co-developed by Yeosijae, Professor Do-Nyun Kim of SKKU Smart Green City Lab, and SK Securities Research Center Smart City Team

- Offers a 3D platform to provide a VR tour of the Smart City Archetype, open to all

- Mobility-based city model that outlines a city that combines the elements of “live + work + play”

The Future Consensus Institute (Yeosijae) unveiled a Korean-style “Smart City Archetype” that offers a model of a smart city that combines the elements of “live, work, and play.” Co-developed by Yeosijae, Professor Do-Nyun Kim of Sungkyungkwan University Smart City Green Lab, and SK Securities Research Center Smart City Team, the “Smart City Archetype” seeks to improve the quality of urban life, rebuild communities, and create a live-work-play smart city through Industry 4.0 technologies. The plan also offers a mobility infrastructure that supports both walking and driving and enables the use of self-driving cars to improve the living convenience of residents.

The “Smart City Archetype” has been made public through a 3D platform developed by the software company Dassault Systems Korea for anyone to take a VR tour around the city. Built on a 1.1 km x 1.2km land (roughly one third the size of Yeouido or 1.32km2) and designed to house a population of 30,000 (or 10,000 households), the city is sectioned into four main parts, with the SMART Life-Care Platform (LCP, or the “living” pillar), and SMART Co-Growth Platform (CGP, or the “working” pillar) in its center. The 3D model also depicts the SMART Eco-line, the third pillar of the Smart City Archetype, which will support the functionality of the LCP and CGP.

The Smart Eco-line, in particular, is expected to offer an eco-friendly solution that facilitates the construction of outer overpasses, enables smart valet parking with smart poles, and mitigates logistical challenges by reducing congestion with an underground distribution system. The LiDAR-equipped smart pole (Application No. 10-2020-0164521) of the SMART Eco-line plan that enables autonomous vehicles and smart valet parking is a product made in Yongsan Y-valley.

Since its inception, Yeosijae has endeavored to adopt digital technologies and future values to develop solutions to the sustainability crisis. Our work on smart cities has taken the same approach to not only adopt Industry 4.0 technologies in our design but also incorporate future values that put people first.

Yeosijae Director of Research Planning Department Dae-Sik Lee said, “This is our first model of the Smart City Archetype, and we plan to build on this model in the future,” and added, “I hope people will examine our future urban infrastructure through the 3D model we have released, and provide innovative feedbacks to add onto our archetype model.”

Smart City archetype 3D platform will be made available on Dec. 21st through Yeosijae’s homepage (link). Anyone can visit the website and use the login information to access the platform. An introductory video of the Smart City Archetype will also be made available on Yeosijae’s YouTube channel (link).

More detailed information and the thoughts behind the 3D archetype platform can be found on Yeosijae’s homepage through the Smart City Korea Whitepaper (link).
