julia.yoon@fcinst.org

Senior Researcher Joon Young Yoon studies the structural transformations triggered by digital technologies across all sectors of society and the resulting reconfiguration of communities. Her research critically examines the processes of organization, rationalization, and stratification brought about by the development of capitalism, with a focus on how digital transformation disrupts and reconstructs the boundaries of families, neighborhoods, villages, cities, and nation-states. She places particular emphasis on Southeast Asian cases to explore the diverse pathways and varying paces of social transformation driven by digital transition.

She earned a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Soongsil University and an M.A. in the same discipline from Korea University, where she conducted research on the domestic implementation of the TRIPs Agreement. After gaining practical experience in the policy and finance sectors, she is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Studies at Sogang University. Her doctoral research focuses on the institutional evolution and development strategies of Indonesia and Singapore, with an emphasis on political economy and state-building.
