Since the advent of ChatGPT in 2022, many people have said that the development of artificial intelligence will lead to revolutionary changes that we have never experienced before. How do you perceive the meaning of ‘revolution’ in this context?

Professor Yong Hak Kim, a sociologist and pioneer of social network research in Korea (former president of Yonsei University), refers to the emergence of artificial intelligence as a “civilizational revolution.” He maintains that the series of changes brought about by the rapid development of AI significantly surpass the scope of previous industrial revolutions, marking a ‘civilizational change’ where AI and humanity must coexist.

The Taejae Future Consensus Institute, through its special project [AI and the Civilizational Revolution], aims to explore the civilizational and sociological significance of AI over two episodes with Korea’s leading social scientist, Professor Yong Hak Kim.

In Part 2, we will explore the sociological factors of AI that trigger community division and the crisis of democracy, and further investigate how we can maintain human identity and social communities while living in the AI era.
