The Future Consensus Institute (Yeosijae) held an online seminar with the former Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, the former Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Ju-ho Lee, and the CEO of Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, Monika Froehler, to discuss the “New Normal and the Future of Education.”

Moderated by the former Under-Secretary-General of the UN and the Chair of the International Advisory Board at Yeosijae, Won-soo Kim, the event served as a platform for the participants to share their insights on the future of education in the face of COVID-19.

The panelists highlighted that the challenges brought forth by COVID-19 presents an opportunity for countries to resolve existing problems in education, including the digital divide, and underscored the importance of international cooperation in turning the crisis into an opportunity.

Irina Bokova, Former Director-General of UNESCO: “Business as usual is not an option anymore. If we want to go to a New Normal, education … has to be put seriously on the global political agenda.”

Ju-ho Lee, Former Minister of Education, Science and Technology: “This is the opportunity to radically upgrade online learning system and combine them with offline high touch high tech education… If successful, Korean education... or K-Edu can be the model for other countries.”

Monika Froehler, CEO of Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens: “What we need to do is … promote global citizenship education even more, now in the times of the pandemic and in the times afterwards.”
